My Weekly Poem

WALT read a poem and analyse the language features of a poem. This will help us think poetically so that we can write a similar poem to share with others.

Haunted House
The door ran open as I walked towards it.
The floor boards creaked as I walked over them.
I was standing under a hanging dagger with blood
leaping from it.
There was a noise like someone being murdered.
I felt scared.
As I walked up the stairs,
the light sprinted from side to side .
My spine shivered as I heard a footstep.
I walked into the bedroom.
I could near the shower go drip, drip, drip
like blood dripping off someone.
I FELT SCARED!!!!!!!

1. Summarise the poem you have read in your own words.
  • The poem I read this week is about a person who goes inside a haunted  house. He/She walked through the door and the door as the person walked towards it.This person is scared of the haunted house.

2. Identify at least 2 different language features in the poem and give examples. You can identify more than 2 language features.

  • One of the language features in this poem is a metaphor Here is an example of this language feature. The door ran open as I walked towards it.
  • Another language feature in this poem is a personification .Here is an example of this language feature. My spine shivered as I heard a footstep.
3. Evaluate (which means reflect and give your opinion) the author’s purpose for writing this poem - in your answers include the words: inform, entertain,
persuade.

  • By analysing the poem I have read this week I think the author wrote this poem because he/she can entertain kids and people who read the poem.
  • The author was informing the audience about the text that I was reading.
  • The author was entertaining the audience by giving opinions and using powerful words.

4. Add a picture on your Doc related to your poem.

Today I read a poem about a person who goes inside a haunted house and the person felt scared.
